Who we are

The Motor Vehicle Traders Register is administered and maintained by Occupational Regulation – a team within the Market Integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Hīkina Whakatutuki.

The role of the Registrar

The Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003 was designed to promote and protect the interests of consumers in the area of motor vehicle sales. The Act requires the Registrar of Motor Vehicle Traders to maintain the Motor Vehicle Traders Register and perform certain functions set out in the Act.

The Registrar role is held by the National Manager, Occupational Regulation.

Occupational Regulation

Occupational Regulation is a team within the Marketing Integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

Our team works to help protect New Zealand consumers by keeping our marketplace free from unsafe and non-compliant products and services. One aspect of this work is administering and maintaining the licencing registers for motor vehicle traders.
