Vehicle Emissions and Energy Economy Labelling from 1 July 2023
From 1 July 2023, the Clean Car Discount scheme is being updated and thresholds at which vehicles are subject to rebates and fees will be changing.
The Clean Car Discount (CCD) scheme is administered by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and is targeted at vehicles being registered in New Zealand for the first time. Vehicles with no or low emissions may be eligible for a rebate, and high-emission vehicles may incur a fee.
From 1 July 2023, the CCD is being updated and thresholds at which vehicles are subject to rebates and fees will be changing.
This means that the CCD data displayed on Vehicle Emissions and Energy Economy Labels and online sales listings must be updated to reflect the changes and to provide the correct information to consumers.
From 1 July, motor vehicle traders will need to remove and replace existing labels with new labels which will display the updated fees and rebates to consumers.
As the new labels will look almost identical to the current labels, a highlighted tick-box symbol will appear on all labels printed from 1 July to differentiate between the current and new label versions. This is intended to help traders keep track of which vehicles have had labels replaced as yard stock is being updated.
The new requirements come into force on 1 July 2023 and there is a period of 14 days (ending 15 July 2023) by which all vehicle labels and online information must be updated. Under the Energy Efficiency (Vehicle Energy Economy Labelling) Regulations 2007 it is a legal requirement to display the correct updated labels for vehicles on the yard and to provide updated information for online listings.
